Demand for houses 'increasing'

Demand for new housing continues to increase because of the rise in
the population, an industry organisation has asserted.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of
Master Builders, the largest trade association in the UK building
industry, said that a way of increasing the supply of housing and
kickstarting the housing market needs to be considered.
His comments follow the release of a government report, which
indicates that the construction industry may be starting to see an
upturn in its fortunes.
"Demand for new housing is still going up and up because of
household formation and increase in population," said Mr
Berry.
The news comes after the CIPS/Markit Purchasing Managers' Index
published by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply
revealed earlier this month that the construction sector
experienced modest improvement in July, with contraction at its
slowest rate for sixteen months and the commercial, civil
engineering and housing construction sectors all reporting
continued contraction.
